A 14-year-old is due to appear in court after allegedly assaulting a police officer in Dunedin last night.
Police were called to the scene on Market St at around 9pm following reports a group of young people were attempting to break into a vehicle.
The youths were arrested by police before they could gain entry into the vehicle.
However, “during the arrest one young person resisted arrest, assaulting an officer”, police said.
The officer was uninjured in the assault.
A 14-year-old is due in the Dunedin Youth Court today charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
Two other youths have been referred to youth services.
