Auckland police have issued more than 150 infringement notices and arrested 13 people in an operation aimed at cracking down on boy racers and anti-social road users.
The operation took place on Fridays and Saturdays between June 19 and 28, resulting in 299 vehicles being stopped in the Waitematā District.
In all, 154 infringement notices were handed out, 13 people were arrested, 10 vehicles were impounded, 45 cars copped green stickers, seven cars were pink stickered, and four cars blue stickered.
“Altered seatbelts, suspension, exhausts, airbag modifications, window tints, lighting, tyres, and window stickers were just some of the vehicle faults we detected,” Waitematā District road policing co-ordinator Senior Sergeant Damian Albert said.
One motorcycle rider stopped by police owed more than $3000 in unpaid fines. The bike was seized and the driver fined.
The arrests were for drink driving, possession of drugs, breaching bail conditions, and various other offences.

Summons were also handed out for driving while disqualified, sustained loss of traction and the serving of demerit suspension notices.
Albert said the operation sent “a clear message that anti-social and dangerous behaviour on roads won’t be tolerated”.
“Police will continue the great work done during this operation by enforcing any illegal activities on our roads and ensuring all modified vehicles are compliant with legislation.”
