Shortland Street is on the hunt for a mystery baby which appeared in the first episode almost 32 years ago.
The baby, who would now be aged 30 or 31, was a girl with dark hair.
Andrew Szusterman of South Pacific Pictures joined Breakfast this morning to explain how the search came about.
With Shortland Street being on a hiatus, Szusterman said the team decided to upload the whole first season, filmed in 1992, onto YouTube. It received about 2.5 to 3 million impressions within the first 28 days.
While doing a “watch along” with some of the early cast members on the first episode, they saw the couple-of-weeks-old baby and wondered where she might be now.
Szusterman said the team has managed to track down the midwife who helped deliver the baby but she did not remember her name — only that she was a female with dark hair.
If the baby is found, Szusterman said they would be invited onto Shortland Street to appear in a future episode.
Szusterman said anyone who has information to help the search can contact the Shortland Street team on their Facebook page, or via the South Pacific Pictures website.
Shortland Street returns tonight on TV2 and TVNZ+.
