Baby wipes sold across the country have been recalled after an audit found some of the product had been contaminated with mould.
Product Safety NZ said some individual sachets of the Bunjie Peek-A-Boo Probiotic Baby Eye Wipes had been not properly sealed during the manufacturing process.
“As a result of air flow in and out of the sachet, the preservative system may have failed, leading to mould growth.”
If a mould-contaminated wipe were used on a baby’s eyes or face, it could cause eye infection, irritation, allergic reactions or other adverse health effects.
“Individuals with sensitive skin or weakened immune systems may be at greater risk,” Product Safety NZ said.
The probiotic bamboo-based products were sold between December 1, 2024 and August 30, 2025 at Chemist Warehouse, Baby Bunting, and via Bunjie’s online store.
Customers were urged to immediately stop using the product and either return it to the place of purchase or contact Bunjie directly for a refund.
In a statement, Bunjie said it had “identified sporadic instances of mould growth on the external packaging” of the wipes.
It said only a small proportion of products were affected, but the recall covered all wipes sold between December 1, 2024 and August 30, 2025.
“We know this is worrying and we sincerely apologise to anyone who’s been affected by this recall. Your little one’s health is our top priority, and we’re here to help in any way we can.”
