A three day rāhui is in effect at Foxton Beach boat ramp, 40km southwest of Palmerston North, after a woman’s body was found this morning.
In a statement to 1News, a police spokesperson said officers were called to the boat ramp at Foxton Beach about 6.45am today following reports the body of a woman was in the water.
“The woman has been identified and work is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances of her death and notify next of kin,” the spokesperson said.
In a post to social media this afternoon, Horowhenua District Council said local Iwi had done a karakia this morning at the scene, placing a three day rāhui on the Foxton Beach Boat ramp area.
“Thank you for respecting this rāhui, an important cultural protocol that allows time for both the family and the environment to heal,” the council said.
