New Zealand Transport Agency says a slip has closed a section of State Highway 3 in north Taranaki this morning.
In a statement, and NZTA spokesperson said State Highway 3 between Mokau and Piopio in north Taranaki was closed following the slip in the early hours of this morning.
“Please delay your journey,” they said.
In an update shortly after 7am, NZTA said the northbound lane on SH4 Taumarunui was also blocked, and urged drivers to “take extra care”.
Further south, on SH3 at Mount Messenger, the southbound lane also remained closed following a slip under the road yesterday.
Stop/go traffic management was in place.
The road closures followed last week’s heavy rain, and the region experienced multiple severe thunderstorm warnings yesterday, with a deluge of rainfall causing surface flooding.
NZ Transport Agency reminded road users throughout Taranaki to drive with caution and be careful and alert to possible flooding and debris on roads.
“Road users can keep up to date with the NZTA Journey Planner.”
