Euronews nearly doubled its online audience over the past year, bucking a sharp downturn across the world’s biggest news websites, according to new industry figures.

The site recorded 44.8 million visits in September, up 99% on the same month last year, according to the UK Press Gazette and is the fastest growing audience for the second month in a row after breaking into the top 50 in July.

September’s figures represented the largest year-on-year increase of any site on the list.

The rise came against a difficult backdrop for the sector.

Half of the top 50 sites saw traffic fall by more than a fifth compared with September 2025, and only seven grew.

In the top 50 news websites, 42 recorded a month-on-month decline.

Other sites to grow over the year included the newsletter platform Substack, up 37% to 172.2 million visits, the Indian outlet One India, up 44%, and Al Jazeera, up 14%.

Among the biggest fallers were the US magazine Newsweek, down 62% to 35.8 million visits, and the Indian sites Hindustan Times and News 18, which both lost more than half their traffic.

The monthly ranking of the top 50 English-language news websites is based on data from the analytics company Similarweb.
