Police have named the 8-year-old boy who died following a violent altercation in Hamilton earlier this month.
He was 8-year-old Zahquiel-John Thomas Patrick Taipeti, of Bader.
“Police would like to extend our sympathies to his family at this incredibly difficult time,” a police spokesperson said.
Officers were called at around 5.20pm on September 1 to a property in the suburb of Bader after receiving reports of a “violent altercation”.
Three people were taken to hospital, including the eight-year-old boy in a critical condition. The boy later died from his injuries.
A 37-year old was arrested at the scene and charged with murder. He remains before the court charged with murder and assault.
Today, police continued to urge residents in Bader to be in contact if they had found any unfamiliar clothing on their properties.
“If residents of Pine Avenue, Anthony Crescent and Ansford Place have located any clothing on their property or under their houses around September 1, they are asked to contact police.
“Police are looking for a white t-shirt and light-coloured track pants that may have been discarded in the area.”
Anyone with information was urged to contact police online or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
