Oranga Tamariki (OT) is assisting police with its investigation into a baby’s “unexplained” death in Canterbury earlier this week.
A police spokesperson said the child died in North Canterbury on Monday morning.
“At this stage the death is being treated as unexplained, and police are working to determine the circumstances.”
And Rachel Leota, Oranga Tamariki’s deputy chief executive in charge of tamariki and whānau services, confirmed today that OT was also notified of the death. She said it was in Oxford.
“We are assisting police in trying to understand the circumstances that led to this.
“However, because this is a police-led investigation we are unable to comment further at this time.”
A post mortem examination was carried out on Tuesday.
