Jack Tame has been revealed as the 1News weekend bulletin presenter, completing a fresh line-up in the wake of Simon Dallow’s departure from TVNZ’s flagship news programme.
The award-winning broadcaster will replace Melissa Stokes, who earlier this week was confirmed as replacement for Dallow as the weekday presenter for 1News at Six.
Tame will continue to host the Sunday morning current affairs programme Q+A.
TVNZ Chief News & Content Officer Nadia Tolich said he is one of the country’s most accomplished broadcasters and interviewers.
“He’s a two-time best presenter winner at the NZ Screen Awards and was named Political Reporter of the Year at last year’s Voyagers,” Tolich said.
“We’re delighted to have him join the 1News at Six presenting team. His experience across news, current affairs and live reporting brings enormous depth to our coverage.
“With Melissa leading weekdays and Jack on weekends, 1News at Six has an exceptionally strong team in place – one that will serve our audience well.”
Tame’s TVNZ career
Tame joined TVNZ as a 19-year-old and has worked as the network’s US Correspondent, co-hosted the Breakfast morning news show and has hosted Q+A since 2019.
Dallow’s exit was confirmed this week and he finishes on November 28. Reflecting on his nearly 20 years in the role, he said it was an “absolute privilege to represent my colleagues and bring you the news over those years”.
Stokes has served as the weekend news anchor since 2019.
TVNZ Chief Executive Jodi O’Donnell said this week Stokes was respected and trusted by viewers, having presented across TVNZ’s news programmes.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have someone of Melissa’s calibre appointed as our lead presenter for 1News at Six.
“She’s done an exceptional job fronting weekends and this experience alongside the strong leadership role she plays in our newsroom makes her a natural successor.
“Her enduring relationship with our audience will help guide them through this transition for our biggest show,” O’Donnell said.
