Police returned to reassure young children at a Huntly early childhood centre after executing a search warrant at a neighbouring property uncovered a “large-scale” cannabis growing operation today.
Detective Inspector Graham Pitkethley said the community can expect an ongoing police presence in the area as the size of the operation — believed to be a commercial setup — was determined.
The search warrant was executed at an industrial warehouse in central Huntly this morning, he said.
“Staff were in contact with a neighbouring early childcare centre to alert them to the warrant — ensuring all the children were safe and aware of the situation and police presence.
“We have since revisited the centre to provide reassurance to the children.”
Pitkethley said he would like to thank the children and the surrounding community for their understanding as the search was carried out.
“Seizing these drugs also prevents a large amount of harm to our communities, and we will continue to keep our communities safe, while taking a source of profit from crime.”
