Kiwi actor Lucy Lawless has marked 30 years since the start of Xena: Warrior Princess, the TV series that made her a household name.
Lawless played the titular character in the US fantasy series, which aired from 1995 to 2001.
The 57-year-old reunited with her Xena co-star Renee O’Connor, who played bard Gabrielle, at Auckland’s Armageddon Expo.
“It’s like we were never apart, honestly,” Lawless said of their reunion.
The pair reminisced about sharing the small screen for six years.
“Thirtieth anniversary year from when the show first started. Can you believe it?” O’Connor said.
“The workload was just astonishing, and it just blows my mind that I was able to work that hard – just being young and hungry,” Lawless added.
O’Connor said fans often ask about the fight scenes, which the actors “would have to learn it on the day”.
While the show ended more than two decades ago, it still has a strong cult following.
“She’s just like such a role model for women and she’s like one of the biggest, badass women there has been,” one fan said. “She just paved the way for it.”
