A magnitude 4.4 earthquake has jolted the Gisborne region this afternoon.
Geonet said the earthquake struck 10km south of Tokomaru Bay at a depth of 12km at 4.17pm on Friday.
The shaking, reported as far west as Whakatāne, was classified as “moderate”.
Within half an hour of the jolt being registered by Geonet, 150 residents in the region had reported feeling it.
