Police are appealing for information after a man was critically injured in an assault in central Wellington overnight.
Emergency services were called to Courtenay Place opposite St James Theatre at around 3.20am after a man was found injured.
“He was transported to hospital in a critical condition,” a police spokesperson said.
“Initial inquiries have determined he has been assaulted, and one person is currently assisting us with our inquiries.”
Anyone with relevant information or who witnessed the assault should contact police on 105.
St John has been contacted for comment.
A 12-month trial which saw cops and paramedics teaming up on Friday and Saturday nights to patrol Courtney Place and its surrounds wrapped up in March.
“Businesses and of course local residents were feeling unsafe and they wanted to create a safer environment in the city,” said mayor Tory Whanau at the launch of the initiative.
