A Christchurch man has been arrested after a man was taken to hospital in a critical condition following a “serious assault” in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency services responded to on Oxford Terrace at 2.30am after the victim had allegedly been punched.
“The victim was knocked unconscious and was in a critical condition when transported to hospital,” a police spokesperson said.
“He is currently reported to be in a serious but stable condition.”
St John was notified at 1.57am and responded with two ambulances, two rapid response units and one manager.
“Our crews assessed and treated one patient who was transported to Christchurch hospital in a critical condition,” a spokesperson said.
A 27-year-old was located on Manchester St a short time later and arrested.
He has been charged with injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and is scheduled to appear in Christchurch District Court today.
