An incident in Nelson which put four schools into precautionary lockdowns on Monday afternoon has been resolved, police said this morning.
Just before 2am on Tuesday, a 56-year-old man was taken into custody after about 15 and a half hours of intensive police operations following the incident at a Motueka St house.
“The other person remaining inside the address is safe and not injured,” police said in a statement.
“The cordons have been lifted, and Motueka St has reopened.”
1News yesterday confirmed the city’s hospital was also partially locked down during the incident.
Police said “significant” resource was deployed, which included police negotiation staff and officers from Canterbury and Wellington.
“We understand this was a distressing incident for those involved, and those victims are being offered ongoing support.”
A man was expected to face a kidnapping charge in Nelson District Court today.
