A man has been seriously injured after allegedly being shot in Levin — the fourth such incident in the Horowhenua town this week.
Emergency services were called to Bartholomew Rd at around 12pm where a person had appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Police were speaking with people to determine who was involved and what took place. It was the latest in a string of alleged shooting incidents in Levin this week.
The first incident involved a man who presented at a healthcare centre with a gunshot wound to his thigh on Monday morning.
He was transferred to Palmerston North Hospital in a serious condition.
Then, at around 8.55pm on Monday, a gun was fired from a vehicle towards a house on Hinemoa St.
“Thankfully, nobody was injured, but the occupants and neighbours were shaken by the event,” police said.
Five shots were then reported to have been heard on Mabel St shortly after 6am on Tuesday.
“Police located a shed that appeared to have been shot and a scene examination is ongoing.”
Manawatū Area Commander Ross Grantham said police would continue to dedicate “significant resources” into finding the people responsible for this “senseless violence”.
“There will be a visible police presence while we continue our investigations.”
