One person has died and five others have been injured after a boat flipped on the Manukau Bar this morning.
Emergency services responded to the water incident in Huia, near the mouth of the Manukau Harbour, at around 9.40am.
Police told 1News they were contacted by Coastguard for assistance and responded with the Eagle helicopter.
“Unfortunately, one person has drowned,” a spokesperson said.
Coastguard said it was alerted to a vessel that capsized on the Manukau Bar at 9.39am.
“Several nearby boaties responded without hesitation, helping to recover seven people from the water,” a spokesperson said.
“Unfortunately, the vessel is believed to have sunk and could not be located.
“We’d like to thank everyone involved for their courage and quick action which made a critical difference in this incident.”
St John said it responded with two ambulances, one rapid response unit and one manager.
“Our crews assessed and treated five patients, one in a moderate condition and four in a minor condition at the scene.”
