Powerball cracks $30m mark for fourth time this year
The Powerball jackpot has cracked the $30 million mark for the fourth time this year in what has been a record-breaking run for Lotto.
Wednesday’s draw follows three earlier big jackpot wins in April, June and August.
“This is a streak we’ve never seen before in our history,” said Lotto head of corporate communications, Will Hine.
“It’s unprecedented for the Powerball jackpot to reach $30 million four times in a year.
“It’s previously happened twice in a year but never more than that.”
A $30 million jackpot was won in April by a Wellington player.
That win was followed by June’s $50 million must-win draw, which netted seven players around $7 million each.
Later in August, an Auckland Lotto player won $44 million – the largest prize ever won on a single ticket.
