A person has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition following a single vehicle crash in Taranaki today.
In a statement police said the crash occurred on Bowen Crescent in Ōpunake, 45km southwest of New Plymouth, shortly before 12pm.
“It appears the vehicle left the road and hit a tree,” a police spokesperson said.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand were required to free the person from their vehicle.
St John responded one ambulance, one first response unit, and one helicopter to the incident.
“Our crews assessed and treated one patient who was airlifted to Waikato hospital in a critical condition,” St John said.
Police said the cause of the crash was still being investigated.
