Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has spoken with US President-elect Donald Trump this morning.
It’s the first time the pair have spoken since Trump was re-elected to the White House last week.
“New Zealand and the United States have a strong and enduring partnership,” Luxon said on X this morning.
“Good to speak with President-elect @realDonaldTrump this morning to congratulate him on his historic election victory.
“We agreed on the importance of deepening ties between our two nations and I look forward to doing just that.”
Republican Trump decisively beat Democrat Kamala Harris when Americans went to the polls last Wednesday.
Luxon posted last week on X: “The United States is one of New Zealand’s most important partners.
“Tonight, I congratulate President-elect @realDonaldTrump and look forward to building New Zealand’s relationship with his incoming Administration.”
