Seven people were rescued from a boat fire off Auckland’s Waiheke Island late this afternoon.
Fire and Emergency NZ was called to a boat on fire off Oneroa Beach around 5.30pm, crews being deployed from Auckland City and Howick.
Upon arrival, police had already helped seven people escape the vessel.
“The vessel is still smoking, so two crews are headed there to extinguish it completely,” a FENZ spokesperson told 1News.
Police said: “All seven occupants were safely removed from the boat by Deodar, the Police Maritime Unit.
“It sounds like some of the people may be suffering from smoke inhalation.”
