A 32-year-old man has been charged with a raft of offences after a 12-gauge shotgun, ammunition, cannabis and methamphetamine were found in a stolen ute after it was stopped in South Auckland early this morning.
Senior Sergeant Clive Wood said officers received information shortly after midnight that a stolen ute was travelling south through the Wiri area.
Police Eagle helicopter was deployed, and tracked the movements of the vehicle on the ground.
The ute arrived at an address in Ararimu, roughly 30km south of Wiri, where the driver was taken into custody without incident, police said.
Wood said a 12-gauge shotgun, ammunition, cannabis and methamphetamine were found when the vehicle was searched.
The 32-year-old driver was charged with being in possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm, ammunition, as well as drugs offences.
He was set to appear in the Pukekohe District Court today.
“Investigations are still ongoing into the original incident where several commercial vehicles were stolen from an Ōtara business last week and have been recovered,” Wood said.
