Gena Rowlands, known for her role as Allie in the 2004 film The Notebook, has died aged 94.
TMZ reported the retired actress died today at home in Indian Wells, California surrounded by family including her husband and daughter.
While no official cause of her death has been announced, Rowlands’ son, director Nick Cassavetes, announced her diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease in June on the 20th anniversary of The Notebook.
He said at the time she had been battling it for five years. Rowland’s character in the The Notebook also had the disease.
Rowland’s also starred in movies such as Glora and A Woman Under The Influence, in which she collaborated with her first husband, filmmaker John Cassavetes.
She is survived by her children Nick, Alexandra and Zoe Cassavetes, and her husband, Robert, who she has been married to since 2012.
