A box of moustache wax, a bag full of toilet paper and a bridesmaid’s dress are just some of the unusual items that were abandoned on InterCity buses in 2024.
In a statement, the transport company said passengers left behind a trove of belongings this year ranging “from the mundane to the outright bizarre”.
Among the standouts included a box of moustache wax, a fake arm, dentures, and even a bridesmaid’s dress.
Other unusual items included a bag full of toilet paper, a toilet seat in a box, a fire safety blanket and a collection of dolls.
InterCity’s chief operating officer Sam Peate said the lost property collection paints a picture of Kiwi travel habits, “some of which are more surprising than others”.
“Our dedicated team does their best to reunite passengers with their belongings, not matter how unusual they may be,” he said.
Jackets, backpacks and electronics including mobile phones and laptops were the most commonly misplaced or forgotten items.
To avoid joining next year’s lost property roundup, Peate encouraged travellers to always double-check seats before disembarking, keep valuable items close, and consider labelling bags with their key contact details.
“After all, no one wants to be the person chasing a forgotten bridesmaid dress down the aisle or explaining why their toilet seat never made it home.”
