Emergency services responded to a collision involving two light aircraft at Waihi Beach airfield this afternoon.
Police said officers responded to the incident at around 1.15pm, but directed all further queries to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) said it initially sent four fire trucks and one support vehicle to the scene, while two remain there.
“No reports of fire or persons trapped,” a FENZ spokesperson said.
St John said one person had been taken to Tauranga Hospital by road in a moderate condition.
In a statement to 1News, CAA said one aircraft lost control during take-off and collided with a parked, unattended aircraft.
“In the coming days we’ll make inquiries to understand what has happened and to determine if any further CAA action is required,” a spokesperson said.
