Two pedestrians have been injured by what appeared to be material falling from a building facade in Auckland’s CBD.
Police said the fallen material appeared to be masonry that had come loose.
A section of footpath was cordoned off on Queen St, and Hato Hone St John sent two ambulances and one rapid response vehicle to the scene, reported shortly after 11am.
“Two patients, both in a moderate condition, were assessed and treated.”
Police confirmed they were providing assistance to emergency services at a location on Queen St where an object had fallen and shattered glass.
Banker Hayden Edwards said he was on break from work when he saw two people get hit with falling debris.
“There was a massive bang and I ran over, there were people who had been cut.
“An older gentleman had a massive cut on his eye, and there was blood dripping from his face, and I saw one other lady holding her forehead.”

The owner of a nearby shop said she heard a “big crash” out the front of her store.

She said she wanted to know — for the safety of her and her staff — why the items fell from the building.
“We walk on the street everyday — one day, it could be us.”
Auckland Council compliance manager Adrian Wilson said staff responded to a report of a small piece of concrete falling from a building on Queen St.
“Officers have visited the scene and liaised with the body corporate manager and the owner of the apartment, where it appears a loose piece of masonry had fallen from the balcony. There is currently no sign of any further loose concrete.
“To ensure the safety of members of the public, the outside of the building will be assessed by abseilers this afternoon arranged by the body corporate. A restriction has been placed around the area of impact on the street.”
