BOYA

I spend a lot of time testing creator tools, and one thing hasn’t changed over the years: audio matters more than almost anything else. You can get away with imperfect lighting, but if your sound is thin or distorted, people click away. That’s why I’m always curious about ultra-portable wireless mics, especially the ones small enough to keep on a keychain. It’s also why I was excited to sit down and write this BOYA Mini 2 review.

The BOYA Mini 2 caught my attention because of its tiny footprint. It weighs just 5 grams, is roughly the size of a fingernail, and snaps onto clothing discreetly. Meanwhile, BOYA has upgraded the Mini series in almost every way, including smarter AI noise reduction, higher bit depth, new recording modes, app control, and long-range wireless performance.

In this review, I want to break down what BOYA changed from the original Mini, what the Mini 2 does especially well, and who I think it’s actually right for.

What Exactly Is the BOYA Mini 2?

The BOYA Mini 2 is a tiny wireless microphone system designed primarily for:

Think TikTok, Reels, YouTube Shorts, IRL streaming, travel vlogs: situations where bringing a bulky lav mic kit feels ridiculous.

What BOYA is betting on here is simple: creators don’t want to wrestle with gear. They want to clip a mic on, hit record, and trust that the audio will be clean.

And with the Mini 2, BOYA has moved the series from “entry level but cute” to “ultra-small but genuinely professional.”

The Upgrades That Actually Matter

1. AI Noise Cancellation that adapts to real life

The biggest upgrade, in my opinion, is the noise processing.

The first-generation BOYA Mini had manual noise reduction levels, which helped in basic conditions but struggled in crowds, changing wind, and the like.

The Mini 2 introduces True AI Noise Cancellation with two levels, powered by BOYA’s new algorithm. It actually identifies patterns like:

and suppresses them dynamically.

What stood out to me is that BOYA specifically tuned it so your voice doesn’t sound “over-processed.” Some budget mics aggressively crush background noise and take your vocal warmth with it. Here, the goal is a clear voice without turning the world into a vacuum.

BOYA also quotes:

That makes this mic especially interesting for anyone who vlogs. Yes, your market walks, travel clips, and street interviews will all sound professional, despite the background sound.

2. Higher audio detail: 48kHz / 24-bit recording

The Mini 2 keeps the 48kHz sample rate of the original but increases bit depth from 16-bit to 24-bit.

What that means in practice:

The frequency range now stretches 20Hz–20kHz. That covers everything from low rumbles to high vocals. There’s also an auto-limiter up to 120 dB SPL, which helps prevent clipping when someone laughs or shouts unexpectedly, something that totally happens on live shoots!

For creators recording dialogue, that alone feels like a meaningful leap over the original mini.

3. New output modes — including Safety Track

This is another upgrade that makes the Mini 2 feel more “pro”.

You now get:

The Safety Track records a second audio channel at –12 dB. So, if your main audio clips, you have a backup. This is a huge deal for live events and outdoor shoots. I personally appreciate this feature because it removes that “please don’t peak” anxiety while recording.

4. EQ presets and app control

The Mini 2 adds the BOYA Central App. It’s one of my favorite changes because it lets me personalize the mic.

Inside the app, you get:

4. There are also three EQ presets:

This is where the mic shifts from plug-and-play to one you can actually tune. Super exciting!

Design and Portability: Tiny Really Does Mean Tiny

The Boya Mini 2’s size is pretty impressive. Check it out:

Also, I have to point out the new Lunar Silver vacuum-plated finish. It gives off a more premium look than the original model, so much better for on-camera wear!

It also delivers:

With that combination, I could realistically record a full day of content without worrying about recharging between takes.

BOYA Mini 2: Compatibility

One of the things that makes or breaks wireless microphones is how easily they connect.

The BOYA Mini 2 works with:

It uses 2.4GHz wireless and connects instantly out of the box — no pairing dance, no multi-step setup. Latency is under 20ms, which makes it suitable for video as well as live talking.

For creators who bounce between phone and camera setups, this level of compatibility just makes life easier.

Who I think the BOYA Mini 2 is right for

Based on the feature set, I’d recommend it to:

If you’re a studio podcaster with a boom arm and acoustic treatment, you’re not the target audience here. But if you want a mic that literally disappears when you wear it, the BOYA Mini 2 is exactly that device.

My Verdict

For me, the BOYA Mini 2 represents where creator audio gear is going:

The AI noise cancellation, 24-bit audio, Safety Track, and app-level customization bring the Mini 2 clearly into professional territory. At the same time, the 5-gram weight and tiny footprint keep it firmly in the on-the-go category.

So it stays true to the Mini series; mics that are tiny yet powerful. This time, though, it supports creators who care about sound quality, not just portability.

If you’re upgrading from the original Mini or looking for a mic that won’t weigh down your setup, I say the BOYA Mini 2 is worth a look.

What I love

  • ✅ The AI Smart Noise cancellation actually works
  • ✅ The 48kHz/24-bit audio sounds amazing
  • ✅ Super tiny, I barely notice it on my clothes

What to keep in mind

  • ❌ The 100 m range works best in open spaces
  • ❌ Charging case needed for a full day
