When LEGO unveiled its Smart Play system at CES 2026, I’ll admit I was skeptical. Screen-free, interactive LEGO? Could It really compete with classic hands-on LEGO experience? But after digging into the system, I’m pleasently suprised. At the heart of it is the Smart Brick, a deceptively small LEGO piece packed with motion sensors, an accelerometer, a speaker, and proximity detection. It responds to your every move—tilts, twists, shakes—and interprets what it “sees” through Smart Tags and Smart Minifigures. In essence, it brings each build to life in ways I didn’t think were possible.
Imagine swooshing a Star Wars ship across the room and hearing the engines hum, or setting Darth Vader down to hear that iconic breathing. The Smart Brick senses it all, letting these builds feel like tiny, interactive worlds in the palm of your hand.

LEGO kicked off the Smart Play system at CES 2026 with three All-in-One Star Wars sets that all include the Smart Brick, charger, Smart Tags, and Minifigures: Luke’s Red Five X-Wing, Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter, and Throne Room Duel & A-Wing. These sets give you everything to unlock the Smart Play experience right out of the box.
Now, LEGO has expanded the lineup with five compatible sets that include Smart Tags and Minifigures but (alas) not the Smart Brick:
Pairing these sets with an All-in-One Smart Brick opens up the interactive play potential, letting fans combine builds into full-scale Smart Play scenarios. Suddenly, your Falcon, landspeeder, and X-Wing all react to movement or minifigurines. It’s the kind of hands-on storytelling LEGO has always promised—but never quite delivered until now.
What’s exciting about Smart Play is how it keeps LEGO tactile and imaginative. There’s no app, no screen. Just bricks, hands, and a galaxy that responds to every move. The Smart Minifigures trigger unique sounds, moods, and reactions, so every character feels alive.

For longtime fans, parents looking for hands-on play, or anyone obsessed with LEGO, the Smart Play Star Wars sets are a modern take on the traditional toy. The idea is to combine building and storytelling into a single interactive experience. For me, the Falcon is pretty exciting. It’s an 885-piece build that should keep kids busy—for an entire snow day, at least.
If you’ve ever imagined your LEGO sets could talk back, now they can. The Smart Play Star Wars sets deliver responsive, screen-free, immersive play—and they’re just the beginning of what could be a very exciting new chapter for LEGO.
