A worker has been injured after being attacked as a group of armed and masked offenders robbed a commercial premises in Auckland overnight.
Four people were taken into custody following what police described as a “nasty” aggravated robbery in Mt Roskill.
Officers were called to the Hillsborough Rd premises at around 9pm after receiving a report that several masked people had entered the premises with weapons.
Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Allan said the group allegedly attacked the sole attendant before making off in a vehicle with alcohol, cigarettes and money.
The victim received minor injuries, and support was being provided.
Allan said a member of the public alerted police to some “suspicious activity” by people in two vehicles just before the robbery — allowing officers to track the offenders.
“Responding to this matter, equipped with the information from the member of the public including registration plates, police were later able to locate two vehicles and apprehend the alleged offenders.”
A male and a female, both aged 21, have been charged with aggravated robbery and would appear in the Auckland District Court today.
A 16-year-old was charged with aggravated robbery and was due to appear in the Auckland Youth Court on January 9.
“This type of serious violence offending will not be tolerated,” Allan said.
He praised the member of the public for reporting the suspicious activity before the robbery.
“This information was critical in the swift response to this incident.
“This is a great example of the community assisting police, leading to these offenders being held to account.”
