Police are investigating several burglaries on rural properties in South Otago over the last month, including one where four sheep were deliberately hit and killed by someone driving a vehicle.
Two separate incidents took place late last month at a farm on Beacon Hill Rd in Wairuna, a rural locality located approximately halfway between Dunedin and Invercargill.
According to police, on May 19, a vehicle entered a paddock at the farm and drove towards a number of sheep before intentionally colliding with several of them. Four were killed.
On May 25, on the same property, bales were damaged with a tool which caused them to spoil.
Last night, two farms were targeted with fences and gates damaged to provide access.
More bales were damaged at a farm on Whiteside Rd, and electric fence reels were stolen from a paddock on Waipahi Highway.
Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the Waihapi area last night or in the Wairuna area last month.
“This includes sightings of suspicious vehicles or people,” a police spokesperson said.
Anyone with relevant information should contact police on 105.
