Police have shared CCTV images of two people believed to be “directly linked” to the September murder of Bill Maangi in Gisborne.
Maangi, 36, was found critically injured on the front lawn of a property between Lytton Rd and Riperata St in the early hours of September 29 after being shot. Despite the efforts to save him, he died at Gisborne Hospital a short time later.
Investigators were still piecing together the events that led up to his death, sharing images of two men filmed in the area – hoping the public could help.
Acting Detective Inspector James Keene said both individuals were wearing sweatshirts with their hoodies up.
“One was seen running from Forrester House over the Ormond Rd bridge onto Riperata St.
“Another was captured walking from Forrester House on Ormond Rd towards town, across Mary St and continued on Ormond Rd.
“If anyone recognises these people or knows who they could be, please contact Police via 105, either over the phone or online.”
Keene said the individuals sought were also believed to be involved in the theft of a Hyundai Sonata, reported missing from Forrester House in Ormond Rd, between 7.30pm and midnight on September 28.
The vehicle was seen heading into Riperata St, turning left onto Lytton Rd, before turning right into the Elgin area.

It was seen again at around 9am on September 29 in the Stout St/Aberdeen Rd area.
It was later found by police on Churchill St on October 20.
Police made a previous appeal for dashcam footage, witnesses to the incident, and the movements of the vehicle.
“Police are grateful for community’s help and thank the members of the public that have helped so far,” Keene said.
