Two people have been rescued after falling off a cliff at a beach in Auckland’s St Heliers last night.
Fire and Emergency assistant commander Barry Thomas told 1News emergency services were called to reports of the fall from the cliff in Gentleman’s Bay shortly after 9pm.
Gentleman’s Bay is located at the coastal edge of the suburb of St Heliers, halfway between Achilles Point and West Tamaki Point.

He said there was a “multi-agency response” including police Eagle helicopter, St John teams, a FENZ lines team from Auckland and police vessel.
The two patients were taken by police boat to nearby St Heliers Bay.
St John said one patient in a serious condition and one patient in a moderate condition were taken to Auckland hospital.
A police spokesperson said it sent police Search and Rescue teams, alongside Fire and Emergency NZ.
He said that this type of rescue does tend to happen in this area.
“The terrain here does have a lot of people walking along these cliffs, some of these tracks have been damaged by storms. There is signage warning people not to access these tracks but we still have some people utilising them and getting into trouble.”
