After several days of uncertainty, it is now clear: the dead whale that became stranded off a Danish island is indeed the humpback whale Timmy.

This has been confirmed by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, according to the Ritzau news agency. Broadcaster TV 2 was among those to report the news.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Environment Minister Till Backhaus has also now confirmed the whale’s death.
According to the Danish nature conservation authority Miljøstyrelsen, a GPS transmitter was found on the carcass. This clearly confirms that it is the same whale that had previously been sighted in the Baltic Sea and later off the German coast. Danish media reported this, citing the Ritzau news agency.
“We can now confirm that the humpback whale stranded off Anholt is the same animal that previously became stranded in Germany,” agency head Jane Hansen said in a written statement.
However, poor weather conditions have so far prevented the recovery of the GPS transmitter.
