Two New Zealand restaurants are among Tripadvisor’s best restaurants for 2024.
The Travellers’ Choice Awards for the Best of the Best Restaurants go to the eateries that received outstanding reviews and opinions from the website’s users.
This year’s lists featured restaurants from 60 countries and covered several categories. These include Date Nights, Fine Dining, Casual Dining, hidden gems, Pet-friendly, Vegetarian, and Vegan, Quick Bites, Outdoor, and Sustainable.
Auckland’s The Grove was named the ninth-best fine dining restaurant in the world.
Tripadvisor said about the restaurant: “The Grove is known for their superb degustation, or bite-sized, menu.
“Don’t miss out on these delightful small plates, delicious mocktails, and excellent wine pairings.
“The food presentation is amazing, and the rich coffee is a great finish. The relaxing atmosphere makes it perfect for special occasions.”
The Grove reacted to the nod on its Instagram, calling it “the best start to our day”.
“Our whole team collectively agree that one of the most fulfilling parts of their job is meeting people from all over the world and sharing the best of New Zealand cuisine and produce with them.
“Thank you to Tripadvisor for providing us with a global presence and to all our customers from every little pocket of the world – thank you for dining with us.”
The number one spot for fine dining went to Restaurant Pic in Valence, France, which has three Michelin stars.
“Restaurant Pic offers a beautiful setting. With a creative tasting menu featuring a delightful variety of original dishes, the food presentation is superb,” Trip Advisor said.
“The top-notch service and calming decor welcomes you in, making you feel right at home. Don’t miss out on their delicious breakfast.”
When it comes to a romantic dinner out, Queenstown’s Nest Kitchen + Bar was ranked the 14th best date night restaurant in the world.
Tripadvisor described it as “breathtaking”.
“Nest Kitchen + Bar is the setting to a picture-perfect evening with your loved ones. Beyond the panoramic views of Lake Wakatipu, take your time to appreciate the innovative tasting menu paired with specialty cocktails.
“If you’re looking for a refined dining experience, this is the place to be.”
Alongside the international lists, Tripadvisor also ranked the top 10 fine dining and casual dining restaurants in New Zealand.
The top fine dining restaurants in New Zealand were:

- Jervois Steak House in Queenstown
- Logan Brown in Wellington
- Craggy Range Restaurant in Havelock North
- Rata in Queenstown
- Ahi in Auckland
- Sidart in Auckland
- Paris Butter in Auckland
- Mudbrick Vineyard and Restaurant on Waiheke Island
For casual dining, they were:
- Fogo South American Bbq Experience in Queenstown
- Bella Cucina in Queenstown
- Barrel & Co. in Rotorua
- Roquette Restaurant and Bar in Taupō
- Casita Miro on Waiheke Island
- Culprit in Auckland
- Baduzzi in Auckland
- Tokyo Bay in Auckland
- Umami Fusion Kitchen in Tauranga
- El Mexicano Zapata Express in Rotorua
Another list, Guide to the Best Pizzerias in the World from 50 Top Pizza, also featured a New Zealand restaurant.
Dante’s Pizzeria Napoletana in Auckland was ranked 46th in the world.
“The passion for Italy and its products in this pizzeria, with 3 locations, is truly astounding. Indeed, the passion for Naples and for pizza,” Tripadvisor said.
“Stepping into one of Dante’s locations is like diving into the true and authentic Neapolitan culture.”
