Actor and hip-hop star Childish Gambino has cancelled the remainder of his North American, UK and European show dates due to an unspecified illness.
The rapper, who is also known as Donald Glover, announced earlier this year he would be bringing The New World Tour to New Zealand, to play a single show at Auckland’s Spark Arena on January 28 next year.
This would be followed by further shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth during February.
Now, the rapper has announced he has cancelled the remaining shows on the North American and European leg of The New World Tour.
He has not made any announcements about the Australasian leg of the tour.
In a post to X, Glover said he went to the hospital in Houston following his New Orleans show for an unspecified ailment “that had become apparent”.
“After being assessed, it became clear I would not perform that night, and after more tests, I could not perform the rest of the US tour in the time asked,” he wrote.
“As of now I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal.”
The star said he made the “difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the North American tour and the UK and European dates” to focus on recovery.
“I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform. Until then, thanks for love, privacy, and support,” he said.
