American rapper Childish Gambino has cancelled the Australia and New Zealand leg of his upcoming tour.
According to Ticketmaster’s website, the musician’s sole New Zealand show at Spark Arena in Auckland on 28 January has been cancelled.
His Australia dates have also been cancelled.
In a statement to ticket holders, Gambino (whose real name is Donald Glover) said his recovery from a recent surgery was “taking longer than expected”, triple j reports.
“The upcoming concerts in Australia and New Zealand are cancelled. One of the last things I’d ever want to do is disappoint my fans,” he said.
“I really appreciate the support you have shown and know that I will do what I can to give u [sic] an exceptional experience when the time is right. Thank you.”
The cancelled leg of the tour comes after the musician called off the remainder of his North American and European shows following an October hospital visit.
“After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent,” he wrote on X at the time.
“After being assessed, it became clear that I would not perform that night, and after more tests, I could not perform the rest of the US tour in the time asked.
“As of now, I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal.
“My path to recovery is something I need to confront seriously.”
Auckland was supposed to be the first stop of Gambino’s New World Tour before making its way around Australia in February.
