A man has been arrested and charged with murder after a person was fatally struck by a car in Auckland last night.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Lanham Lane in Massey around 6.50pm on Tuesday, police said.
Waitematā CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Williams said a vehicle had struck the victim on the driveway and was driven away from the scene immediately afterwards.
“Sadly, despite the best efforts of ambulance staff at the scene, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” he said.
Williams said the vehicle involved in the crash was found and seized from an Avondale address last night and the alleged driver of the vehicle was arrested in the Thames area and brought to Auckland.
Police have charged a 37-year-old man with murder and he was expected to appear in the Waitākere District Court today.
“Police are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the man’s death,” Williams said.
“While we can’t comment on the specifics of what has taken place, I can advise that both men are known to each other.”
A scene examination would continue at the address today as part of the homicide investigation.
Anyone with additional information was urged to contact police online, by calling 105 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
