A 16-year-old from Christchurch accused of an assault that left a woman in critical condition last month is now facing further charges.
The woman was found seriously injured at the Richmond Village Green on Stanmore Rd on February 5, and the teen was arrested and charged on February 28.
He previously appeared in the Christchurch Youth Court facing charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and an assault charge in relation to a second victim and theft in relation to a separate offence in the area.
In an update today, Detective Senior Sergeant Karen Simmons said police have filed further charges against him relating to serious violent sexual offending.
She said he has appeared in the Christchurch Youth Court and has been remanded in custody.
Police also provided an update on the woman who the teen allegedly attacked.
“The victim is slowly recovering from a significant head injury and is still receiving treatment as part of her long road to recovery,” Simmons said.
“We are continuing to provide her with support and update her about developments in this case.”
The accused was scheduled to reappear in the Christchurch Youth Court in early April.
