Police are investigating after shots were fired at a tavern north of Wairoa over the weekend.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Moorhouse said officers were called to the Frasertown Tavern to reports shots had been fired towards the building shortly after 11pm on Saturday, March 15.
“At least two, possibly three, shots were fired, hitting the tavern and a vehicle in the carpark.
“The tavern was open with several patrons inside at the time, and it is very fortunate no one was injured,” he said.
As part of their investigations police were looking at whether there were any gang links.
Moorhouse wanted to hear from anyone in the vicinity of the tavern around the time of the incident, and were particularly interested in sightings of a white hatchback vehicle seen in Frasertown at that time.
Anyone with information was urged to contact police online, by calling 105 or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
* This story has been updated after police corrected earlier information saying the shooting was “gang related”. They have since said possible gang links are being investigated.
