A prisoner who spent the night on the roof of an Otago prison has come down.
Otago Corrections Facility general manager Dave Miller said the remand prisoner got up on the roof at 12.45pm on Wednesday. He voluntarily came down at 7.30am on Thursday.
Miller said the prisoner would be “held to account”.
He was placed in segregation and was being assessed.
The prisoner’s arm was believed to have been injured while he was jumping around.

‘No threat’
Earlier, Corrections staff were talking with a prisoner. Corrections confirmed at 11pm on Wednesday he remained “at height”.
Miller said on Wednesday night the area was contained and within the secure perimeter of the prison grounds.
“Staff responded immediately to contain the incident and are currently talking to the man,” he said. “There is no threat to the wider security of the prison and no threat to public safety.”
Fire and Emergency NZ had been on site as a precaution given the prisoner was at height.
