The four-part local spinoff of The Chase came to a close on Monday night, with a whopping total 1.29 million having tuned in on TVNZ 1, and a further 154,000 accounts streaming it on TVNZ+ throughout.
The Paul Henry-hosted The Chase New Zealand was in the top 10 most-streamed shows on TVNZ+, as well as in the top 10 most-watched broadcast shows this year.
Content director Nicola van der Meijden said it was fantastic to see Kiwis get behind the show in the past four weeks.
“Paul, our Chasers Anne and Issa, alongside the ITV Australia team, did an incredible job putting together an entertaining series,” she said.
“The franchise has very loyal fans in Aotearoa, so we’re pleased to see our local adaptation was enjoyed by many. We’re looking ahead to next year and the possibility of further episodes.”
Anne “The Governess” Hegerty was undefeated across her three appearances. However, contestants Ash, Andy, Wendy and Kahu beat Issa “The Supernerd” Schultz to walk away with $43,000.
Host Paul Henry was glowing in praise of the contestants across all episodes.
“Without exception, the contestants in the first series of The Chase New Zealand brought much more to the table than just their general knowledge,” he said.
“It’s not easy putting yourself forward to be judged by the nation on the biggest game show franchise in the world, and I’m so proud of them, they were all winners in my eyes.
“It was a fantastic show to be part of.”
