American YouTube star IShowSpeed was swarmed by hundreds of young fans at the base of Sky Tower this afternoon as he toured sites in Auckland.
The internet personality, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr, spent the day travelling across the city.
He attended a training session with the Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium, shot hoops with the Breakers, and sparred with Kiwi UFC star Dan Hooker at City Kickboxing.
Referred to as “Speed”, the online streamer has built a huge following on YouTube with over 33 million subscribers. He is known for his wild stunts, high energy, and collaborations with stars both on and off the internet.
In the last few months, Speed has spent his time racing Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles, featuring on WWE, and meeting football stars like Christiano Ronaldo.
The influencer has been in Auckland as part of his Australia and New Zealand tour and live-streamed his day on YouTube for five and a half hours. Earlier this afternoon, he visited Sky City, where hundreds of fans gathered outside to catch a glimpse of him.
He then visited the All Blacks Experience and Weta Workshop Unleashed exhibition at Sky City before ending the day’s live stream.
Groups of fans could be seen chasing his van as it left the venue.
Police said there were no incidents that required an emergency response.
The escape from SkyCity capped off Speed’s second livestream in the country.
Yesterday, he was in Rotorua, where he took part in a haka, visited Whakarewarewa – the Living Māori Village, and plunged 43m in a free fall from the “Vertigo” thrill ride.
Tomorrow, he’ll be in Queenstown before heading back to Australia.
