Police investigating how a three-month-old baby in the Hutt Valley came to be seriously injured have revealed she sustained nine fractures — including to her ribcage, ankle and upper arm.
On June 14, police were notified that a three-month-old baby had been taken to hospital by her family.
Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Wescott today revealed the baby girl had sustained nine fractures, including throughout her ribcage and a fracture to her ankle and upper arm.
“Some of these injuries occurred at different times, and police are working tirelessly to find the truth about how the injuries were sustained.
“We do not believe that these injuries could have been accidental.”
Wescott said police would like to thank all who have come forward with information “and continue to assess all information as it comes in”.
“The baby’s condition is thankfully improving, but we continue to ask for anyone who knows anything about how this baby girl sustained such serious injuries to come forward.”
Anyone with information was asked to contact police via 105.
