An on-licence application for Indigo Room, in Moray Pl, has been opposed by police, the medical officer of health and a licensing inspector.
The applicant, Aika & Co 2016 Ltd, was sent licence renewal documents and an invoice in September, a report to Dunedin’s district licensing committee said.
But the renewal application was not submitted and the licence expired on October 15.
In his report, medical officer of health delegate Aaron Whipp said the applicant had continued to operate without a valid licence.
“This significant non-compliance reflects a lack of commitment to adhering to legal requirements, raising concerns about the applicant’s suitability…”
Chief licensing inspector Tanya Morrison said in her report while the applicant held its previous licence the annual fee was not paid for nearly 10 months, despite several reminders from Dunedin City Council staff.
When contacted about the expiry of the previous licence, the applicant attempted several times “to convince council staff to allow the renewal to proceed”, Ms Morrison said.
“To do so would’ve been unlawful.”
The police submitted an interim opposition as they were yet to complete their inquiries with the applicant.
Indigo Room did not respond to questions by deadline.
A hearing for the bar has been scheduled for Monday.
