The Breakfast whānau has grown with presenter Anna Burns-Francis and her husband Simon welcoming a baby girl.
She weighed 8 pounds 7 ounces (3.8kg) and was born with a “ton of hair”.
“Her and her husband Simon are yet to choose a name but we can report mum and the baby are doing great,” colleague Chris Chang said on today’s show.
Burns-Francis and Simon Gordon got engaged in New York in 2022 and were married in Wellington last year.
They announced the pregnancy in an Instagram post while on holiday in January, saying: “holiday for two that was actually three – we’re very excited for a little Burns-Francis-Gordon baby due later this year (we celebrated by heading to the land of raw fish and delicious umeshu)”.
She joined Breakfast at the start of 2023 after spending several years as 1News’ US correspondent.
In an interview in May last year she said adjusting to her new gig as host of Breakfast has been “a big learning curve” after leaving her previous role as TVNZ’s US correspondent where she worked alone.
“To come back and be in this big production where someone does your hair and makeup and there are four other people that you have to talk to every day and bounce off and share ideas with, it’s very different,” she told an RNZ podcast at the time.
The Breakfast presenting team during Burns-Francis’ maternity leave continues to be Chris Chang, Jenny May Clarkson and Daniel Faitaua.
