For the first time, global superstar Celine Dion has spoken out about her life, career and health in a documentary trailer released today.
“I have been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder. I wasn’t ready to say anything before… but I am now,” Dion said, after her diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome in 2022.
The official trailer for I Am: Celine Dion, which was released this morning, offers an exclusive look into how the singer has coped following her diagnosis and the impact it has had on her recording career and tours.
The singer, 56, had to cancel her world tour in 2023. She said at the time: “It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again.”
Towards the end of the trailer Dion breaks down, saying: “It’s not hard to do a show. It’s hard to cancel a show.
“I’m working hard every day, but I have to admit it’s been a struggle.
“I miss it so much. The people. I miss them.”
The documentary also showed Dion at what appeared to be physical therapy.
In January, it was announced that Amazon MGM Studios had acquired the rights for the feature-length documentary, which was set to be released next month.
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, described the documentary as “a raw, intimate portrayal of a pivotal time in her personal life and career, pulling back the curtain on her journey as she overcomes an unthinkable diagnosis”.
“It’s an honour to be trusted with her story, and we can’t wait to share it with Prime Video audiences around the world,” Salke said.
