Chase host Bradley Walsh stunned as contestant makes ‘TV history’

The Chase host Bradley Walsh was left floored and exclaiming “this is extraordinary” as a contestant pulled off what he called a first in the programme’s 15-year history.

In a recent episode of the UK quiz show, contestants Eileen, Andreas, Amanda and Merrick tried to bank up as much money as possible in the cash builder before taking on Chaser Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha.

But it was contestant Amanda’s round that tipped the episode into unexpected territory.

Ahead of her cash builder, Amanda revealed she’d made a promise to her son – if she won him enough money, she’d buy him a “ridiculously expensive” pair of Balenciaga trainers.

“That’s really quite high-end,” Walsh remarked, before Amanda revealed the shoes cost £800 (NZ$1850).

“I beg your pardon?” a gobsmacked Walsh reacted.

Amanda secured £4,000 (NZ$9240) in her opening round, and Sinha offered her £50,000 (NZ$115,500) as a high offer — or £800 as the low, matching the exact price of the designer shoes.

After weighing it up with her team, she took the £800 offer.

It proved the right call. Amanda outran The Sinnerman and made it back to the team, clutching the precise amount she’d come for.

Once she returned to the desk, Walsh told viewers they had just witnessed something unusual.

“This is extraordinary. I think this is the first time ever in 15 years someone has come for something specific, needed a specific amount, got that amount, and then got through.”

“It’s television history,” Sinha chimed in. “But it’s a terrible indictment of the state of society.”
