A Cirque du Soleil performer has been injured following a “rough landing” during a show in Auckland this afternoon.
The man was injured during the final act of Cirque du Soleil Corteo’s 12pm performance at Spark Arena.
“An artist who is part of the final act Tournik act had a rough landing in the safety mattress during the completion of a group acrobatic skill,” a Cirque du Soleil Corteo spokesperson told 1News.
Set on a double-sided stage, the show – directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca – imagines a festive parade from the perspective of a clown. The show premiered in Auckland on October 30.
The show was stopped as a precaution while the performer was taken backstage, where he was “immediately taken in good care by our performance medicine team”.
“He was fully conscious and was transported to the hospital for further examination.”
The show resumed around 25 minutes after the incident.
Hato Hone St John said Event Health Services were at the show, and crews were notified of the incident at 2.11pm.
“Our crews assessed and treated one patient who was transported to Auckland City Hospital in a moderate condition,” a St John spokesperson said.
The performer’s condition will be monitored by Corteo’s medical and coaching teams “to determine when he can safely return to his activities”.
Corteo’s final Auckland shows were due to go ahead through to Sunday at Spark Arena.
