A historic EU-India free trade agreement is being signed today in New Delhi after years of taking one step forward and two steps back. As the EU looks to counter tariff threats from the current US administration and manage an influx of cheap goods from China, European leaders and business representatives are marking the moment at a landmark EU-India summit today.

Under the deal, India is expected to ease market access for European products — from cars to wine. In return, it will be easier for India to export textiles and pharmaceuticals. Euronews EU editor Maria Tadeo is in India and sends us an update.

Then we go back to Brussels, where we are joined in our studio by the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Henna Virkkunen. The Finnish politician and former MEP and government minister is currently in charge of Tech Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy.

Also in Brussels: Mark Rutte, the NATO secretary general, was in the European Parliament yesterday with a stark message for MEPs. He said European nations would need to increase defense spending to 10% if they “really want to do it alone,” adding they would need to build up their own nuclear capability, costing billions of euros. Euronews’ Stefan Grobe joins us in our studio to fill us in.

Lastly: you might have noticed the French president has soared in popularity lately, quite simply for his fashionable shades in Davos. Emmanuel Macron is also using this moment in the limelight to push through a social media ban for minors that has also been approved by the French Assembly. Jakub Janas tells us more.
